Our Daily Prayer for Monday - Rev. Maulin Vanderburgh Bilingual Spanish/English

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.”

JOHN 19:25-27 NKJV

Scripture & Prayer Submitted by: Rev. Maulin Vanderburgh

Thought: "The love of a Son for His Mother."

Jesus was nailed to the cross, at the foot of the cross stood his mother Mary and John his beloved disciple. Jesus is dying, He is in agony, gasping for each breath. He sees his mother at the foot of the cross, heart broken, weeping, and inconsolable, she heard his cry for thirst and saw them pierced his hands and feet. His heart goes out to her. Rather than being consumed by an understandable concern for his own welfare he is touched by hers. He thought about her wellbeing, she was a widow, who would take care of her? He knew his siblings did not believe in his ministry but his mother did, would they take care of her. He knew John would, so he said the following: 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. (John 19:26, 27)

It is assumed that Joseph (Mary’s husband) had died before Jesus began his earthly ministry and Jesus’ siblings did not believe in his mission. (John 7:4-6)

This means that Mary was a widow, therefore Jesus the compassionate Savior that he was, wanted to ensure that his mother would be cared for after his earthly life had expired.

Prayer:

Righteous and Eternal Father, blessed be your holy name. You are holy, you are Almighty God, you are Abba Father, the beginning and the ending. I thank you for another day that you woke me up to see, great is your faithfulness Oh Lord. Thank you for health and strength and for keeping me in my right mind. I worship your holy name.

I thank you for sending your only begotten son Jesus Christ to be the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of our sin. Thank you Jesus for coming, thank you for dying in my stead.

I pray for every Mother today. I honor them for the role they play in caring for the Family. Lord I am reminded of a quote by Dorothy Canfield Fisher regarding mothers: “Mother is a verb. It is something you do. Not just who you are.”

As we set aside a special day to honor mothers ( Mother’s Day) I pray for strength, courage and comfort for every mother. For the mother who is struggling in one way or another to care for her family, I pray that you make daily provisions for her. Bless her financially, be her shelter and the lifter up of her head. Help her to look to you from whence cometh her help.

Father, as we honor and appreciate mothers we are reminded of the example set by your son Jesus Christ as he hung on the cross. He was concerned about the wellbeing of His mother and designated his disciple John to care for her. Thank you Jesus for being such a compassionate Savior. We love you, please extend your mercy to every mother today. For the mothers who do not know you as Lord and Savior please draw them to you that they may experience your love in a special way.

Lord hear and answer my prayer in the mighty name of your Son Jesus Christ.

Amen

Padre eterno y justo, bendito sea tu santo nombre.

No solo quién eres ".
