Keep God Always in Your Windshield - Ruth Doran

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But, take heart, I have overcome the world.

As I sit here reflecting on my life, I am bringing to mind the many times that God has helped me to triumph over life’s many trials.

Let me begin by explaining that my father was severely bipolar and spent most of my life in and out of mental hospitals.  My mother died of cancer when I was not quite a teenager.  Before she passed away, my mother told me to always keep God in my windshield and to let him keep a hand on my shoulder.  At that time, I did not understand her wonderful words of wisdom.  They came in time to be my life’s motto!

After somehow making it through to adulthood, I was blessed to meet and marry my husband.  My brother actually introduced us. Life was good and I was thankful.

I desperately wanted to start a family right away. The one thing that I had always wanted to be was a mom! I hoped to have a large family. That goal was not so easily attained. Finally, after going on four years that felt like an eternity; I became pregnant. God was answering my prayers! All was going along really well until I was eight months along.  My dear brother suddenly became very sick and died within two weeks. I was SO angry with God!  I screamed at him, “how dare you take one, give one!”  I prayed that my baby would not be a boy!

God knew better.  Exactly six weeks after losing my dear brother, I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy.  We named him after my brother.  He was such an easy baby!  As the years went by, he came to remind me in many ways, of my brother.  He has his eyes, dimples and beautiful smile.

Knowing that he would be taking my brother home; God blessed me with an amazing gift!  I am brought so often to my mother’s words, “keep God always in your windshield.”  A wonderful reminder to always look forward and allow God to guide me.

The following verses have helped me in times of trial and adversity, may they also minister to the person reading my testimony:

Romans 8:16-17 NKJV

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV

Romans 5:3-4 NKJV
