Prayer Changes Things

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
— Ephesians 6-18

If we are willing to be patient, we will be rewarded. Many of us do not see our prayers answered because we look at our situation with our time-sensitive expectations. We do not trust God enough to be able to answer our prayers on our time schedule, and we often end up taking hold of the situation as we try to control the outcome our own way.

As believers, we can effectively exert great spiritual power and it can be used as an extraordinary spiritual weapon against the enemy, as he tries to come up close and personal, and whisper his lies into our ears.

Are you aware of the various forms of prayer that are available to you that you can use as you pray and wage spiritual warfare? Most people do not realize that there are different kinds of prayer. But according to the Bible, God has made many forms of prayer available to us to use as needed.

Here are some of these forms of prayer:

  • The prayer of faith:  James 5:15 says, “And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.”

  • The prayer of agreement (also known as corporate prayer):  This was begun after Jesus ascended to heaven by the disciples and believers of that time.

  • The prayer of request (or supplication):   We are to take all our requests to God. Philippians 4:6 teaches, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”  It also encompasses the prayer of Thanksgiving.

  • The prayer of worship: The prayer of worship is similar to the prayer of Thanksgiving. The difference is that worship focuses on who God is while Thanksgiving focuses on what God has done

  • The prayer of consecration: This mode of prayer is indicative of a time of setting ourselves apart to follow God’s will.

  • The prayer of intercession: Many times, our prayers include requests for others as we intercede for them. We are told to make intercession “for everyone” in 1 Timothy 2:1.

As you develop a lifestyle of prayer, keep in mind that if you wish to be victorious in the long-distance race we find ourselves on, you need to be totally convinced that prayer is your indispensable weapon and also your way to communicate directly with God.  He is available 24/7 to listen and respond to your requests.
