Lessons of the Wilderness
THERE ARE BATTLES TO BE WON AND FEARS TO OVERCOME
The most important part of the lessons of the wilderness are these:
We grow spiritually especially when we obey God in the midst of our suffering. Jesus
suffered yet he still obeyed God.
It teaches us humility. Because God gives immeasurable grace to the humble.
In the wilderness, it becomes a season of self-discovery.
It is a season of purification. The Lord spoke to my husband and told me I was going
through a “process” when confronted with a cancer diagnosis.
We can learn to recognize when God is working these purposes in our lives, submit to
the process, and press into Him during these seasons. If we will do this, we will walk
successfully through the wilderness and into the promises that wait on the other side.
Season of revelation. It is through this wilderness that Gods true Glory is revealed to us.
You cannot shorten your wilderness experience, but you can prolong it. One of the ways
Satan tries to keep you in the wilderness is by tempting you to complain. Complaining is
offensive to God, saying, “I don’t like what You’re doing in my life right now, and if I were
You, I would do it differently!” If you have found yourself complaining, it is important to
confess this sin to God and determine to resist the temptation to complain. Father, I
confess that I have complained against You. I decide today to stop complaining. You know
what is best for my life. From this moment forward, I will praise and thank You for all that
You are doing in me.
To fight the urge to complain, create a list of at least three things that make you thankful for
your wilderness. Put this list in your pocket or on your phone and pull it out whenever you
have the urge to complain.
What Happens when God seems far away, silent, what happens when you cannot hear his
voice even when you are still? Proverbs 3:5-6 makes you a promise it reassures us that no
matter what it looks like, his plan is in play and we have to BE STILL AND TRUST HIM.
