Reflection - Rev. Maulin Vanderburgh

Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
— Psalm 90:1-2 ESV

I read the following, (which is a portion of an article on the ABC APP) this morning.

“On Jan. 9, the World Health Organization announced that a new Corona virus could be behind a mysterious disease that had sickened 59 patients in Wuhan, China.

Almost a year later, what is now known as COVID-19 has infected more than 80 million people globally. More than 1.7 million people have died, including more than 333,000 in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University, and our lives have been fundamentally altered.

Infectious disease experts, scientists and medical professionals have worked tirelessly over the past year to determine how this previously unknown virus is transmitted, how to prevent it from spreading and how to treat it.”

After reading the above article I began to reflect on the past months and on the fact that The Sovereign God has been the only constant (a situation or state of affairs that does not change) in my life. As we stand on the cusp of a New Year there are many unknowns:

When will the Coronavirus be eradicated? Will there be normalcy as we knew it?  And many other questions.

While there may not be a definitive answer to the many questions, one thing is certain and that is: The Sovereign God of the Universe is in complete control. The bible declares in Psalm 90:1-2 ESV

 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
    in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

The following scriptures also assures us that we can rest in the fact that God continues to be in control.

Deuteronomy 31:6

6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Isaiah 41.10 ESV

Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

As we enter the New Year 2021 let us do so with confidence in God’s Word and in His Sovereign Power.

God bless you all

Happy New Year!!!
