Choosing Obedience

Obedience is not always a word that we like to hear because it demands that we take action, and sometimes that action is costly. To be obedient means to yield, adhere to, to follow commands or instructions. It means to fully submit to the Authority who is giving the command. In the passage above, God was giving his people a choice. He was asking them to choose between being blessed and being cursed. The decision would be theirs to make, however, both decisions would carry consequences. When God asks us to obey it is always for our benefit. Obedience to God always brings His favor and blessing. It is often easier to disobey because the flesh fights against yielding its will. But when we know that God loves us and always has our best interest first it makes it easier to be obedient. We may not always understand the “why”, but when we understand and know the WHO, obeying becomes natural.

Prayer:

Lord, I pray, in the name of Jesus, that you would help me to have a yielding heart that is obedient to all your ways. Let me know and love you in such depth that my desire is to live a life that is obedient and pleasing to you every day. Help me to understand that when you ask me to do some thing or lead me in a way that is unfamiliar to me that you are always doing it for my best. Do not let my carnal thinking keep me from the blessings that you have planned for me when I am obedient. May my heart belong totally to you. Today I choose a life of obedience that is blessed by you. Amen

Elegir la obediencia

La obediencia no siempre es una palabra que nos guste escuchar porque exige que actuemos y, a veces, esa acción es costosa. Ser obediente significa ceder, adherirse a, seguir órdenes o instrucciones. Significa someterse plenamente a la Autoridad que está dando la orden. En el pasaje anterior, Dios le estaba dando a su pueblo una opción. Les estaba pidiendo que eligieran entre ser bendecidos y maldecidos. La decisión sería suya, sin embargo, ambas decisiones tendrían consecuencias. Cuando Dios nos pide que obedezcamos siempre es para nuestro beneficio. La obediencia a Dios siempre trae Su favor y bendición. A menudo es más fácil desobedecer porque la carne lucha contra ceder a su voluntad. Pero cuando sabemos que Dios nos ama y que siempre tiene primero nuestro mejor interés, resulta más fácil ser obediente. Puede que no siempre entendamos el “por qué”, pero cuando entendemos y conocemos a QUIÉN, obedecer se vuelve natural.

Oración:

Señor, oro, en el nombre de Jesús, para que me ayudes a tener un corazón sumiso y obediente a todos tus caminos. Déjame conocerte y amarte con tal profundidad que mi deseo sea vivir una vida obediente y agradable para ti todos los días. Ayúdame a comprender que cuando me pides que haga algo o me guías de un modo que no conozco, siempre lo haces para dar lo mejor de mí. No dejes que mis pensamientos carnales me aparten de las bendiciones que tienes planeadas para mí cuando sea obediente. Que mi corazón te pertenezca totalmente. Hoy elijo una vida de obediencia que sea bendecida por ti. Amén
