Yearning for God in the Midst of Distresses – Maulin Vanderburgh

As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before you?
— Psalm 42:1,2

The Psalmist gives us a portrayal of someone having an ardent desire or longing for fellowship with God. Just as the deer pants for water while grazing on the hillside in the heat on a hot sunny day, so should our longing and desire be for God especially in these unprecedented times.

Sovereign Father and God, we honor and praise your Holy Name. You alone are Most High over all the earth. From everlasting to everlasting you are God. You are King of kings and Lord of lords. You are the conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah. In you we live and move and have our being.

We thank you that your son Jesus Christ died for us and pardoned us of our sins.

We thank you for this new day that you woke us up to see, along with it comes new mercies, and great is your Faithfulness Oh Lord. We thank you for the activities of our limbs and for being in our right minds. Help us Lord to keep our minds stayed on you as you promise to “keep us in perfect peace if we do.”

Holy Father, we asked that you give hope to the hopeless, and bring comfort to the anxious and fearful especially at this time of uncertainties.  Father, you delivered generations past out of turbulences, plagues, pestilences, sicknesses and diseases, we believe and have the assurance that you will do the same for us. Your word declared “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?”

Deliver us we pray out of this pandemic in our land. We pray for healing for all those who are suffering from Covid-19, for those who have lost love ones, those suffering physically and mentally. We pray for Doctors and Nurses, and all other frontline workers, the Essential workers, and all others not mentioned here but you know them all.  Father, we pray for wisdom for our Leaders that you will guide them so that they will be able to make wise and right decisions for the Nation.

We pray for those who do not know you as Lord and Savior that you will turn their hearts to you and cause them to find peace with you, and worship you as Lord.

Father, we repent of our sins, transgressions and failures, and ask for your forgiveness. Forgive us Lord!

Lord, we believe your word as written:

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Lord God, we thank you for hearing us, and thank you in advance for what you have already done and what you are going to do in the precious name of your only Son Jesus. Amen.
