God’s Love is Limitless - Rev. Grace Reyes

Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
— Psalms 36:5 NKJV

The Psalmist extolls God’s great love against the backdrop of human evil. It refers to the love of God and His mercy. God’s unchanging Love is seen through His faithfulness.

Hard to wrap my head around the concept of God’s love..we live in a world that is most of the time transactional.  You do for me, and I will do for you.  We see this manifest not only in our jobs, and schools but even in our churches and ministries.  It is hard for us personally, not to fall into this trap and live in a place that if we do a kindness or help someone we unconsciously and sometimes consciously expect some sort of reward or recognition for our actions.

But, not with God, His love is high and deep, wider than we can imagine, it’s simply so immense we cannot begin to comprehend it.  You see, it is not subject to what you do or don’t do.  He will never love you any less, you can never do something so bad that he cannot forgive you if you come to Him with a repentant heart.  His love for you is not based on who you are or what you do, it’s based on who He is, and God IS love and His love is infinite.

The love of God for His rebellious children is the most wonderful thing that the universe knows. It will be constantly unfolding throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. Our human mind cannot comprehend fully it’s significance.

Tongue cannot utter it and pen cannot explain it. The apostle cannot find words to describe it. He calls upon the world to behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. 1 John 3:1 NKJV

The Description of God’s Love through these declarations describes the love of God as:

  • God Himself (Romans 5:8). But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • Coming from God and proving that you are born of Him. (2 Corinthians 5:17). Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

  • Binding us to God that no power in the universe can separate us. (Romans 8: 38-39). For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • How does God's love transform us?   (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV) “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

When filled with God's love we can endure pain, quell fear, forgive freely, avoid contention, renew strength, and bless and help others in ways surprising even to us.

This is the language God has chosen to express His love toward us:

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.  (Isaiah 49:15)

In short – this love is the life of God – working with transforming power in the soul, perfecting Christian character, making human beings partakers of the Divine nature. Through Christ this living stream of love and life flows to the world.

In Psalm 139:14 there is another way to view the endless love of God through how He created us. There is something so intricate and meaningful about how God has made us that we really should be in awe of that fact. David goes on to say, “I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Not many passages in Scripture communicate the heart of God towards his people quite like Psalm 139. And rightfully so, it’s a popular passage that pulls at the heart and resonates with us at the deepest levels of what it means to be human. It’s a psalm of comfort and confidence – about how completely God sees us, how intimately He knows us, how deeply He loves us, and how intently He hears us.

“O LORD” stands for God’s personal name, Yahweh, communicating his covenant-making, covenant-keeping nature to his people. Yahweh is the name that specifically represents his steadfast love and faithfulness, his mercy and justice, and his commitment to never leave us or forsake us.

That type of God—infinite in tenderness and personalness towards us—searches us and knows us. All of our anxious thoughts. All of our heavy burdens. All of our prayers and petitions. All of our disappointments and despairs. He knows what we need before we need it, and why. He knows what we desire and long for, and why. He knows the way we feel, the way we process, and why.

God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 NKJV)

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. (Isaiah 54:10 NKJV).

Circumstances may separate friends, but no circumstance can separate us from the love of God. Thus, Paul declares:

I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come.

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38,39)

Human love may change, but God’s love knows no change.
