As sure as God has placed times and seasons in His plan for nature and the fulfillment of the earth’s purpose, he has also shown us through His word that in the spiritual realm there will also be changes in seasons as we go through our spiritual lives.
Several years ago, I found myself awakened early one snowy morning by the Lord to spend intimate time with Him. I made my way to the living room to sit and gaze out the bay window to pray. I found myself unable to pray as the Lord began to open my eyes to the most insignificant things of the landscape that lay before me. As I sat quietly before him in meditation, I heard the Lord as He asked me a question; “What do you see”? I said; Lord I see the sun rising in the distance as it reflects off a blanket of pure white snow, a couple of squirrels playing in the trees, and one small bird perched on a branch as if he has lost his way. It was in that moment that the Lord showed me that what I was really looking at was the glory of His creation. Everything that my eyes were seeing had its part in God’s plan.
Though winter is not my favorite season and often it feels barren and cold, God was showing me that even in those seasons when life seems the hardest, He is still there. In our spiritual lives, God will bring us from season to season and in each of them, he will teach us to trust him more. With each passing season of our lives, God is promoting us to the divine destiny that he has preordained for our lives.
As we embark on yet another year, let us embrace this season. I will ask the same question of you that God asked of me, “What do you see”? Don’t rush past the things that seem small and insignificant. Stop and with spiritual eyes allow God to show you his Glory. What we glean from this season will set us up for the season to come. Enjoy the journey along the way to divine destiny, for in each season there are blessings and strength for the journey.
